Tantalus Myth

The myth of Tantalus is about a man who was banished to Hades and he had to live the rest of his life in water up to his chin. There was fruits above him on branches as well and when ever he tried to drink the water or eat the fruits they would recede away from him. For this photo, I had Vanessa behind a wire fence to show her trapped and not being able to get out to reach her desires. I blurred the background and burned the edges to bring more focus on Vanessa. I also played with the contrast, hue, and saturation.

From Modern to Vintage

For this photo, I followed the tutorial by Gavin Hoey. We adjusted the hue and saturation to make a more black and white look and we created a cloudy layer to make it look aged. White was added to the edges to make it look like the photo was fading.

World

For this photo, I used the polar coordinates to make the picture wrap around in a circle. The I used tools like the clone stamp to get rid of the line where the edges of the picture met. I adjusted the contrast and saturation to give it a bright clear look.

Green

For this photo, I adjusted the saturation and contrast on it. I also burned the shadow on the right to make it stand out so the photo looked balanced. I also blurred the leaf in the top right corner so it wasn't too distracting.

Lomo Photo

I just followed the steps to make it a lomo photo and that is about it. I think her face looks a little too white and I could have fixed that.

Casey Portrait

For this photo of my sister, I clone stamped out the letters on her sweatshirt because they were distracting. I also blurred the background so it didn't take away from her. I dodged her eyes to make them stand out and I used a very light blue neon glow.

Eliana Portrait

For this photo, I blurred the background and I raised the contrast because the photo looked really flat before. I also dodged her eyes to make them stand out because they were really dark before and blended with her hair.

Tyler

I blurred this photo and then erased the blur off of my brother. I tried to blur the words off of his hat so that it wouldn't be distracting. I also clone stamped out the words that were on his sweatshirt.

Lindsay

I didn't do much editing with this photo besides enhancing her eyes and then I clone stamped out some objects in the background. I need to blur the background slightly to focus more on her.

Emily

For this photo, I played with the saturation to make it look not as flat. I also burned the top right corner because it was distracting. I also used the dodge tool on her eyes to make them stand out more.

Apurva

For this photo, I blurred it and then erased the blur of of Apurva. I also clone stamped out a building on the right that was distracting.

Yellow Wallpaper Photo

This photo represents the Yellow Wallpaper story because the woman in the story seems trapped in her room and she is going crazy. The fence and the vines growing in it show this trapped feeling. I tried to blur the building in the background but it was very difficult and i think it takes away from the point of the photo.

Color Psychology Red Plant

This is a picture of a plant with red branches. Red represents anger and energy and I think that this picture shows that because the tangled branches give the photo energy and show craziness like anger. I used the macro setting on my camera and used the blur overlay to enhance the red in the branches.

Color Psychology Playground

For this photo of a playground, I used the gaussian blur to enhance the colors. The colorfulness is used to attract children and this photo shows this because the white background gives a nice contrast to the colors so they pop.

Color Psychology Jewel

For this photo, I took a picture of a jewel and it was very difficult to make the big jewel the focal point because there were other jewels in the background that were distracting. I played with the photo's background trying to make it darker and then i tried lighter. In the end, I burned the jewel and dodged the background because it looked the best and gave more focus on the large jewel. I think that the photo gives off a cold mood and a pure feeling because the background is very light and the jewel has tints of black in it.

Color Psychology Berries

For this photo, I took a picture of black berries. I think the photo gives off a sad feeling because black represents sadness and depression. All of the colors in the background are neutral which helps focus on the berries. This picture was taken using the macro setting on my camera.

Rust Repulsive

I took this picture of the cover to our fire pit using the macro setting on my camera and then I got really close to emphasize the rust and dirtiness to it. It is repulsive because it is all rusty and nasty. It also has an attractive aspect to it because of the bright color of the rust. I used the gaussian blur to make the colors pop out more.

Leaves Repulsive

I took this picture of leaves that were down in a window well because it looked dirty so it gave the repulsive aspect but the different colors of the leaves also made it attractive. I used a blur overlay to make the colors of the leaves more prominent and i used the burn tool on a lot of it to make it dark and more repulsive looking.

Moss Attractive

I took a picture of the moss that was popping out between the bricks on my porch using the macro setting on my camera. I took it because the green looked bright against the brick so it was attractive, but yet it was repulsive because moss is gross. I used a blur overlay on this photo to make the moss brighter.

Oil Spill Attractive

For this photo, I took a picture of oil that was spilled on the ground and it had created colors on the ground. I chose this because I thought the colors looked good. Initially the picture was very light and it was hard to see the colors so i used blur overlay to make the colors more intense and noticable. I also used the burn tool to darken up the right side of the photo because it was very light compared to the other side. I think the colors make it attractive but it is also repulsive because oil is gross and I darkened it up to make it more repulsive.

Go Green Montage

My theme for this montage was go green and being environmentally friendly. I made my background bright with blues and greens to show nature's beauty and how important it is to preserve it. I took a picture of the solar panel at Brennan's to show how solar energy helps the environment. My recycling bin represents my theme because by recycling, we can keep more things out of dumps. The aluminum water bottles are Eco friendly because they reduce the use of plastic water bottles. I gave my environmentally friendly light bulb a neon glow as well to highlight it. I also took a picture of a reusable grocery bag because they reduce the use of plastic and paper bags.

Anger/Depression Montage

For this montage I tried to go for the idea that anger causes sadness and depression. I used the fallen down tree to symbolize that anger will cause destruction. The gate is a symbol of how anger can restrain you from doing the things that you want to do. Also in a more literal sense, anger can lead to making bad choices which can lead to jail so the gate can represent that as well. The grave represents how death can make people feel depressed and even angry at times. The broken pencil represents how a person can feel broken and worn down by anger and depression. I have a picture of Sarah looking down to make it seem as though she is depressed and worn down from her emotions. I used a photo of Breanna screaming to imply that she is angry. I took a picture of water drops on a car window for my background and it shows sadness and crying. Overall, I made the picture feel sad and angry by making the colors dull and dark.

Easy Blur

I chose this image because I thought it would look like a creepy dream since it already looked kind of dirty and run down. The blur helps soften it up and make it look like something out of a dream.

Neon Glow

I chose this photo and put a blue neon glow on it because I thought the blue glow would look good against the whiteness of the picture.

Background Filter

I chose this photo to filter the background because I thought it would look cool to isolate sarahs body and make the background out of focus so it looks like she was moving.

Blur Overlay

I chose this picture for the blur overlay affect because I thought it would look cool with abit of a blur since it is already creepy looking.

Day to Night

For my day and night photo I took a picture of Pine Terrace and I tried to get some of the trees in the picture to give it a more creepy look. I adjusted the hue, saturation, and other settings to darken it up as well.

iPod Ad

I took a picture of Sarah for my ipod ad and I had her jump with her hands open so that I could place an ipod in her hand. I could not get a good picture of her in the air like I had wanted, however, I got a good one as she was about to jump.

Space

I chose to use an open field as my background because the open area would be perfect for creating space between my objects. I used the road to try and show the distance and space between the objects up front and the objects in the back. The road was also my object of choice. The white house and the outhouse were used as my geometric objects and i made them small to make them appear further away. I used the flowers as my radial object and I made one larger to make it look up close in the camera. The basket, bench, and the plane are my negative space objects. I also used the bird and the small bush as my organic objects. The old car is my retro object and I think that overall, the scene has a whimsical feel to it.
